Obasi Sure Of Victory In Madagascar

Super Eagles striker Chinedu Obasi has stated that the Eagles are in high spirits and ready to go and win the Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar encounter in Antananarivo on Sunday, adding that a win is a must for them to nurse any hope of playing in the African mundial next year.

"Hardwork is the only thing that we need to beat the Madagascans on their home soil and everybody must be ready to give his 100 percent to get the desired result."

Obasi believes that the present Super Eagles squad has what it takes to be great by reaching the final of the World Cup in the nearest future.

Speaking to Complete Sports before the team's departure for Antananarivo yesterday, the FC Hoffeinhem of Germany player maintained that after reaching the final of the Under-20 World Cup and the Olympic Games final match at Beijing, Nigeria is ripe enough to reach the final of the World Cup at the senior level.

“I have strong belief that if we work hard and remain focused, we can go all the way to the final of the World Cup and who knows what can happen there. We have the players and managerial credentials to realize the dream of playing at the World Cup final. It is possible and we can do it."

“When we reached the final of the Under-20 with coach Samson Siasia in charge, nobody gave us any chance of getting that far, but because we believed and we were very determined, we surprised the world, losing only to the magic of the great Messi.

“Again at the Beijing Olympics, we went as underdogs, but with Siasia still in charge, we went all the way again to the final and Messi again deflated us when his killer pass gave Di Maria the only goal of the match. We still have the bulk of the players that took us that far and I am very sure that we can do that again if we qualify for the 2014 World Cup with the present technical crew,” he stated.
