IT’S £8M OR NOTHING

West Brom go tough on Osaze, ready to hold on to Eagles star

West Brom are prepared to sell Peter Odemwingie for £8 million, according to the Daily Mail.

Wigan Athletic had a bid rejected by the Baggies last week, with boss Roy Hodgson describing the club's offer as "laughable".

The Latics have been looking to strengthen their attacking options after allowing Charles N'Zogbia to join Aston Villa for £9.5m earlier in the transfer window, and are believed to be lining up a new bid for the striker.

Talks between Odemwingie, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham, and West Brom over a new contract have stalled, and the Baggies have now set an £8m price tag on the Nigerian.

In another report, this time in the Birmingham based daily paper,Express And Star, the club is reported to be ready to hold Peter Odemwingie to his Hawthorns contract even if he fails to sign a new deal this month.

Talks are ongoing over an extension to the striker’s existing contract, despite media claims that discussions had stalled.

But the Baggies are prepared to keep the Nigeria international at the club on his current agreement, in spite of increasing speculation about interest from other clubs.

The parties are still in dispute over wages with some reports claiming Odemwingie wants as much as £55,000 per week to commit to an extended agreement.

However, with last season’s leading scorer effectively tied to the club for another two years, Albion believe they are in a strong bargaining position as they prepare to return to the negotiating table.

They are determined to keep him, even if he digs his heels in over a deal.
With a year remaining on his current contract and a further year’s option in the Baggies’ favour, Odemwingie would be just a few weeks away from his 32nd birthday by the time he became a free agent.

Albion have raised the Hawthorns wage ceiling in the last two summers, with higher earners now believed to be on in excess of £30,000 per week.

They would consider going even further to reward Odemwingie for his stunning first season in England, but it’s unlikely they would be willing to break the £50,000 barrier.

Wigan have already had a bid, believed to have been worth between £3.5million and £4million, laughed off by Albion while several other clubs, including Tottenham, are monitoring him.

Odemwingie missed Sunday’s defeat at home to Manchester United, with an ankle injury that struck him in the pre-season friendly at Bristol City.
