ARSENAL, A/MADRID TO OPEN N1.3b ILORIN STADIUM


English Premier League side, Arsenal and Spanish La Liga side, Atletico Madrid are on the cards for the official  opening of the renovated and upgraded Ilorin Stadium next month.

The stadium was rehabilitated to the tune of N1.3billion by Kwara State government with the sitting capacity increased from seven thousand to 18,000 and the playing turf turned to astroturf.
The project was executed by the Aron Construction Nigeria Limited.

Organisers of the world class match disclosed that Dan Jan Sports Management outfit who brokered the Manchester United and Portsmouth of England visit to Nigeria in 2008 has been mandated to ensure the arrival of either of the two teams.

"Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are the two teams on our card at the moment and we have contacted Dan Jan Sports Management outfit to get either of the two teams for the official opening of the stadium in May",informed Media Coordinator of the event to Complete Sports on Sunday.

He added:"Dan Jan you will recall, facilitated the visit of Manchester United and Portsmouth of England to Nigeria in 2008 and we hope they can still do it this time around.”

No date has been fixed for the match that will mark Governor Bukola Saraki's exit from the government house while ushering him into his new seat in the Senate.

"The European seasons will end in the early weeks of next month, May,so will be able to get an acceptable date based on the European team's programme", the match media Coordinator explained.

Kwara State will present a selected side coprising players from Kwara United, Bukola Babes and Kwara Football Academy with Kadiri Ikhana as head coach while Festus Allen of Bukola Babes will assist him.

It would be recalled that Jose Mourinho "the Special One" visited Kwara State in July 2009 when he conducted a coaching clinic for football coaches
