The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed making contacts with big football playing countries with a view to meeting the Presidential directive for the football ruling body to organize an international friendly match for the Super Eagles to usher in a new president on May 28 in Abuja.
Chairman of the NFF technical sub-committee, Barrister Chris Green who confirmed this exclusively to Complete sports in Abuja said that the NFF have mandated some agents to get an opponent for the Super Eagles for the May 28 match in line with the directive from the Presidency to organize a match to usher in the next administration on May 29.
“It is a very difficult task because the day in question is not a FIFA free day and because most of the leagues will be rounding up their respective season with their players itching to go on break after a hectic season but It is not impossible to get a big country to come and play our Eagles on that day because our agents are working round the clock to work out something.
“Our target is to get either Spain, Germany,Holland or France to come and play the Super Eagles in Abuja on May 28 but that is not ruling out any other top European or South American country aside Argentina that have a date with us on June 1 in Abuja.
We don’t have preference for any country now, all we want is to get a big football playing country to accept to play the Super Eagles on that day'',he said.
Green also revealed Eagles top stars will be used to prosecute the match.
“We want all our best players to be available for the match as well to help the coaches to prepare the Eagles for the June 1 clash with Argentina and the return leg match with Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on June 5. What it means is that Siasia would open camp at least one week before the May 28 date so as to keep the players form and fitness in shape after their hectic season in Europe might have ended” .
Asked what will happen if none of the big countries is ready to play the match on that date,Green believes there will be no if come May 28,assuring the agents the NFF have commissioned will deliver one big country because of the carrot the NFF is dangling for the match.
He added that what Mr President will not take is that the NFF is not able to land a big match on that day insisting that whatever happens,a football match will be played on May 28n as directed.
