ODEMWINGIE BREAKS ALBION’S GOALS RECORD

Scores Goal No 12 As Baggies Crash To Chelsea

FOOTBALL:

Nigeria forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie made history by becoming West Bromwich Albion’s highest scorer in a season in the English Premier League, but ended up on the losing side as the Baggies were beaten 3-1 by champions Chelsea at the Hawthorns.
The 29-year old’s 17th minute strike which gave the Albions the lead in the pulsating tie was his 12th of the campaign and it ensured he bypassed Robert Earnshaw whom he formerly shared the record with.
Albion went into the game with an unenviable record of not having kept a clean sheet for 30 top-flight games and the excellent Odemwingie instilled confidence in their fans that the run could be about to come to an end with his top class finish.

Jerome Thomas played an intelligent ball which took a slight ricochet off John Terry, but the ball still found its intended target (Odemwingie) who sprinted into the area before deftly flicking the ball over the advancing Petr Cech.
Odemwingie has been an instant hit with the Baggies since arriving from Russian side, Locomotiv Moscow last summer.
He made a dream debut scoring in his first game against Sunderland at the Hawthorns and also won the player of the month for September.

The former Lille of France striker has also earned rave reviews for his goal scoring ability in the EPL, he is also a good passer of the ball and already has six assists to his credit with 86 shots.
He is now three goals short of the 15 goals target he set for himself for the current campaign.
His international teammate, John Obi Mikel made a return for Chelsea’s line-up in the tie after failing to take any part in Tuesday’s champions league loss to Manchester United.
Mikel was on for the entire duration of the game and put a solid display in his customary holding midfield role.
