Inspires Baggies Revival With Vital Incursions
Peter Odemwingie was in devastating form for West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns Saturday evening, inspring the Baggies to a 2-1 victory against Liverpool.
Post match talks were centered around the battle of Liverpool managers past and present at the Hawthorns, but it was Roy Hodgson who left Liverpool in January for the promoted side, that had the last laugh courtesy of a virtuoso display by the Nigerian.
Hostilities at the end of half time ended goalless with Odemwingie proving to be the most potent attacker on the pitch, despite the presence of big money signings, Andy Carroll (most expensive British player) and Luis Suarez in Liverpool’s line-up, with the Reds defenders struggling to cope with his pace.
Despite Albion starting the second half brightly, it was Liverpool that broke the deadlock after 50 minutes through Martin Skrtel’s second goal of the season.
Carroll won a corner after his shot on the turn was tipped by Scott Carson at full stretch, but he was well beaten by Skrtel’s header from the resulting cross by Meireles, after he had out jumped Scharner.
However, Odemwingie took over the show, winning two-penalty kicks that inspired the Baggies revival.
Russian international, Sotrios Kygiakos was adjudged to have brought down the impressive Odemwingie inside the box and Chris Brunt brought Hodgson men level after62 minutes.
It was the third goal of the campaign for the Northern Ireland international.
Then, with three minutes to the end of proceedings, he won another spot kick.
The 29 year old shook-off the challenge of Kyrgiakos and then was brought down by Pepe Reina.
Up stepped Brunt again to hammer the spot kick past Reina for the winnig goal.
