West Brom Star Bags 13th Goal Earns Baggies Coach, Roy Hodgson’s Praises
FOOTBALL:
West Bromwich Albion’s chief goal getter, Peter Osaze Odemwingie continued his fine run of form, in the English Premier League, grabbing his 13th goal of the season as Baggies rallied to a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the White hart Lane.
Odemwingie, who is targeting a remarkable 15 goal haul in his debut season in the English top flight, put Albion ahead on five minutes and consequently uncovered a shirt underneath his Albion jersey with the bold inscription Rest In Peace OLUBAYO ADEFEMI, also featuring the picture of the late Eagles star.
The prolific Nigeria latched on to Carlos Vela’s pass and then out muscled Bennoit Assou- Ekotto before curling a delightful 20-yard shot pass Gomes.
Osaze and Adefemi were both members of the Nigerian team to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
Spurs equalized through Roman Pavlyuchenko in the 29 minute but Odemwingie remained a thorn in the flesh of their defenders with his pace and intelligence.
He was close to getting his second of the day as Nick Shorey beautiful cross found him unmarked in the box but Gomes pulled off a World class save to trip his header around the post.
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson praised Odemwingie and his teammates but warns them the battle to avoid the drop is not over yet.
“The two goals scored from Odemwingie and Cox were excellent as well the one scored by Tottenham.
“But it will be prudent at this stage to still be looking over our shoulders as the season draws to a close.
And for Odemwingie, he has increase his goal tally after ending Robert Earnshaw’s run as Albion’s leading goalscorer during a Premier League season.
He could however move away from the club as a number of clubs within and outside England are rumored to be interested in securing his services.
