After weeks of indifferent form and two frustrating defeats, Build Bright United regained a modicum of self pride by drubbing lowly Prek Pra Keila 8-0 in their Metfone C-League tie at Olympic Stadium yesterday.
It had been a nightmarish start to the league season for the Hun Sen Cup finalists as they went down without a whimper to newly promoted sides. The university-backed club could only muster one point from a controversial draw against Naga Corp, and like Prek Pra were eager to gain their first win of the campaign.
In the end, victory for the Blues was never in doubt with Pech Sina beginning the goal rush as early as the eighth minute. But within the next few incisive moves, Oum Chandara took over the frontline command and began to assert himself.
He was so overbearingly successful that he finished up with three splendid strikes while Pech Sina and Nuth Sinoun contributed a brace each. Late in the game, substitute Ny Chinann got his name to the scoresheet in BBU’s runaway win.
It was a massive let down for Prek Pra’s faithful followers as the team was a pale shadow of the fighting force they had proved to be against Phnom Penh Crown three days previously.
The backline was almost as invisible as it was ineffective in controlling the BBU traffic which was not only heavy but one way.
BBU management understandably greeted the triumph with a sense of relief, with coach Meas Sam Ouern claiming that the team had at last struck the right note when it came to cohesion upfront.
The goal drought for Prek Pra continued with the side unable to cash in on a few scoring chances that came along. Mat Hassan drove into the box on a few occasions to shake the BBU defence, but poor finishing dogged him all the way.
There was one glorious chance to break their duck when BBU goalkeeper Heng Simay fumbled a collection and presented Sos Souhana an open goal, only for the Prek Pra midfielder to drive the ball wide.
The three points takes BBU to four points from four games, while Prek Pra on just one point from four matches are second from the bottom, just ahead of newcomers Rithy Sen.
Oum Chandara moves to the top of the scoring charts on five goals, ahead of the Nigerian duo of Crown’s Kingsley Njoku and Kirivong’s Nelson Oladiji on four a piece.
