Eagles star says Milan super stars don’t scare him
AC Milan-bound Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo said goodbye to the French Ligue 1 in fine style after he was named by the French professional footballers’ union (UNFP) in the best XI of the season.
The 26-year-old Taiwo has quit Olympique Marseille as a free agent for Italian champions AC Milan, who have handed him a three-year contract.
Taiwo is in good company in this best XI along with Ivory Coast international Gervinho and Moussa Sow, who helped Lille win their first league championship since 1954.
However, there was no place for Taiwo’s compatriot and Sochaux striker Brown Ideye, who fired 16 goals in the French top flight and ensured his club feature in the Europa League next season.
Meanwhile Taiwo maintains he has no fear about playing for Italian champions Milan next season.
The left-back has agreed to join the Rossoneri on a Bosman transfer after his contract in France expires.
“I’m not afraid of playing for Milan,” he stated. “I was already nobody when I first arrived at Marseille, but I was able to impose myself.
“The Rossoneri are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, like Manchester United and Chelsea.
“I’m really enthusiastic about playing alongside people like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Clarence Seedorf.
“I’ll work hard every day. It’ll then be up to the Coach to decide how and when to use me in the team.”
Taiwo is one of two defenders signed by the club so far. The other is Roma’s Philippe Mexes who will also arrive on a free transfer.
