Emenike charged to court, freed

Days after being arrested as part of a match fixing investigation in Turkey, Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike has been charged to court and then released.

The forward was one of 26 people charged to court after questioning. But after making his defence in court, the player was discharged unconditionally and is now free of all allegations.

Also released at the same time as Emenike were four others; Sezer Ozturk, Tugrul Call, Mahmut Boz, Mustafa Efe, and Ozer.

Eleven others were released earlier in the day after questioning.

However, the striker has been sent to the Immigration Bureau, although it is unclear as yet why.

Emenike was alleged to have been caught on camera negotiating to withdraw from Karabukspor's home game against Fenernahce in return for joining the Yellow Canaries if they become champions.

He is also alleged to have been caught on tape receiving money.

But the player successfully defended himself in court.

The Nigeria Football Federation have asked to be furnished with details of the player's case.
