Warri Wolves go top as Rangers hit 5

Enugu Rangers hit five goals for the second time in as many weeks, although it was still unbeaten Warri Wolves who went top of the Nigeria Premier League.

Despite having two key players away on trials to Europe, Rangers still had enough lethal weapons in their personnel amoury to fire five past Zamfara United.

Musa Najire needed just three minutes to put the hosts in front, prodigal son Emeka Nwanna converted a penalty five minutes from half time before adding a second just before the hour mark. Ugonna Uzochukwu and Brendan Ogbu completed a good day at the office for the Flying Antelopes to make Anas Abdullahi's 50th minute strike nothing more than a face-saving consolation.

Wolves, still one of two sides yet to taste defeat this campaign, went top with 11 points on the back of a close 2-1 win over Lobi Stars.

Gombe United, a point behind, shook off last weekend's 3-0 trouncing at Dolphins to go second, helped by Mustapha Babadidi's late strike against Ocean Boys. The game finished 1-0.

ThankGod Amaefule converted two penalties as Sharks won 2-1 against Sunshine Stars to also keep their unbeaten run going. City rivals Dolphins lost a bad tempered game 1-0 to Niger Tornadoes, despite goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi saving a penalty.

At the bottom, Akpos Eborge's late strike propelled Plateau United to their first win of the season, against fellow basement side Bukola Babes.

Draw specialists JUTH, across the pond from Plateau, came away from from Kaduna United with a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Chris Madaki put the visitors in front with a penalty 5 minutes from half time, but Jude Aneke restored parity for the home side just three minutes later.
