Nsofor: ‘Why We Always Play To Die For Siasia!’

Victor Obinna Nsofor is relishing the prospect of working under new Super Eagles helmsman, Samson Yebwoei Siasia.

The pair first teamed up together when Siasia was in charge of Nigeria’s U-20 side in 2005 and Obinna was part of the Flying Eagles side that won the African Youth Championship in neighbouring Benin Republic early that year before being axed from the World Cup squad.
However, three years later, Obinna now a bit more matured player, was a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s Olympic team that picked silver medal at the Beijing Olympic games, with Siasia also directing proceedings from the bench.
Another five years have passed and both men have passed through different  tests in  their careers.
Obinna had unsuccessful spells at both Inter Milan of Italy and Malaga of Spain but appears to be nearing his best once again after teaming up with English Premier League side, West Ham United in the summer.
For Siasia, he made a bold return to handle the Nigeria U-20 side once again at last year’s World Youth Championship in Egypt but his six month romance ended in disaster, with the team exiting the competition in the second round winning only one match.
He also  had a brief stint with Heartland Football Club but failed to produce his magic wand once again as the Naze Millionaires failed to reach the knock out stage of the CAF Champions League.
But the Nigeria Football Federation official heeded to public demands and finally handed him the Super Eagles job, after months of speculation and Obinna cannot wait to work on the international scene with his man.
“Siasia is a coach any player would like to play for,” starts the pacy goal getter.
“I played under him at the junior level and it would be a great opportunity for me to play under him again at the senior level.
“He understands everything about his players, giving them the right atmosphere to operate and that is the reason everybody is always willing to die for him on the field of play,” he remarked

Club Owners boss happy with MTN Sponsorship

Chairman of Club Owners in the Nigeria Premier League, David Suleiman says he is happy with the new sponsorship deal between MTN and NPL.

Suleiman who spoke yesterday from Minna said the sponsorship is the best thing to happen to the Premier League after the problem of last season when there was no money for the clubs.

“We want to commend the board of NPL and the Chairman, Davidson Owumi for the effort to get the Premier League on the right track.

“We are all happy in the club owner’s forum. This is a good thing for us because we have really suffered when there was no money for the clubs last season.

“The coming of MTN will greatly improve the game in the country. You can be sure that there will be great motivation for the players to do their best, the Chairman of Niger Tornadoes said.

The club owner’s boss added: “We are happy and the fact that the Premier League was able to attract a sponsor like MTN shows there are great potentials in the Nigeria Premier League.”

Meanwhile, majority of the clubs owners are not happy that there are moves to scuttle the deal by some powerful people.

They noted that for anybody to think of putting pressure on anybody to reject the MTN deal shows some people don’t like the Premier League to grow in the country.
