A Call For Unity

Our dear beloved country Nigeria: Great Naija
Unity as a driving force that join people together for particular purpose is the missing link that's causing havoc and  divisions amongst Nigerians recently. Another factor contributing heavily to the growing division is politics. There's no where politics is being played and world at large are aware of its effects either good or bad but politics at this level is being play with so much at stake to gain from it.  Some gain fame and wealth and these are obvious reasons why many join politics today. Politics literally supposed to have been a call to serve people and uplift standard of living for the masses.

The Nigerians community in Cambodia is not supposed to be seen as same level as world view of politics for greed, crave for power, nepotism, selfish interest, favoritism, fame or wealth. Its simply volunteering with no benefits attached or whatsoever. People serving as ex-cos are doing so at the expense of their tight schedules in order for our community to move forward and they should be commended for their commitment. Weather we believe or leave it, lots of people have benefited from the community and I'm a witness to this fact.

When I first got here and harden enough to find someone you know across streets of Phnom Penh. It's from the gathering of Nigerians that I found people who fed me with right information about daily livelihood of Cambodia. My visa was almost due and not knowing the right offices to get my extension done it's then president that helped me out. He showed me where to go and how much I might be charged. The list could go on and many who have gone and still here could attest to this facts.

The community has also helped many processed different kinds of document to enable them travel back home such as traveling certificate-TC. Marriage certificates to those who got married to foreign wives and husbands, Nigeria visa procurement, birth certificate, consular issues, burial arrangement and operation feed the nation. Monthly general meeting has been a huge avenue for many to obtain up to date changes and happenings within and around us.

To many who perceived serving officials incapacitated or inefficient of responsibilities assigned to them should please come out to address the officials' weaknesses and proffer way forward. Critics alone hasn't done enough. Leadership is a collective efforts and this is much needed now to move things forward.

Present situation of the seemly interesting community is very disheartening. Something has to be done to savage the dying community. We all can't fold our arms watching this ground for unity to fade away. Outside football gathering, this has been an only independent umbrella that conveys all Nigerians irrespective of their tribes or background. We discussed issues affecting us and collectively seek better solutions to them. I'm using this medium to call on all stakeholders, elders, ex-officials, past and serving ex-cos to please come together to convey special meeting on way forward.

Many thing would go wrong if we all remain silent. Our people would become prey to the devouring divisions and mind you, it's the innocent ones that suffer it most. I dare all Nigerians in Cambodia who believe in one Nigeria to please stand boldly to this call and together Nigerians will re-unite again.
